Aggregates & trade sands.

MOT Type 1, ballast, hardcore, top soil, road planings, grano dust, sharp sand, building sand and 75–40mm gabion stone. Stocked at the Walsall yard. The everyday lines that builders, groundworkers, landscapers and farmers run on every job. Loose from one tonne up, or in 850kg bulk bags.

What we stock

Trade-grade stock. No merchant in the middle

Primary MOT Type 1, ballast and hardcore for sub-bases and foundations. Sharp sand, building sand and grano dust for screeds, mortar and slab beds. Top soil for gardens and landscape. Road planings for tracks and lorry standings. 75–40mm gabion stone for baskets, retaining walls and river-bank revetment. Dry-stocked under cover where it matters. The stuff builders, groundworkers, landscapers and farmers run on every job.

  • On the floor, not "subject to confirmation" All nine aggregate and trade lines stocked at the Walsall yard. Most available same-day in the Black Country, next-day across the wider West Midlands.
  • Backload on a grab / muck-away run If a grab is collecting your spoil anyway, the marginal cost of bringing aggregate back is barely the gate fee.
  • Primary spec where it matters Our MOT Type 1 is primary quarried limestone — the spec councils, civils and warranty-driven new-build groundworks ask for. Not a recycled substitute.

MOT Type 1

Primary quarried limestone sub-base. Drives, hardstandings, access tracks and capping layers. Compacts hard to civils and highways grade.

Mixed · Concrete

Ballast

20mm sand-and-gravel ballast for general concrete mixes. Foundations, footings, slabs and oversite. Loose-tipped or 850kg bulk bags.

Crushed concrete and brick. Cost-effective fill for ground raising, void filling, oversite bulk and access-track build-up under MOT Type 1.

Screened topsoil for lawns, planting beds, raised borders and landscape build-up. Loose-tipped or 850kg bulk bags landed by HIAB onto driveways and gardens.

0–40mm · Asphalt

Road Planings

Recycled asphalt. Self-binding sub-base for tracks, yards, farm drives and lorry standings. Sets like tarmac once rolled in warm weather.

0–6mm · Granite

Grano Dust

Fine granite dust. Slab bedding, block paving jointing, top-finishing layer over MOT Type 1 sub-base. Compacts to a smooth bed.

Coarse · Washed

Sharp Sand

Coarse-grade washed sand. Screeds, concrete mixes, slab bedding, block paving. Loose-tipped or 850kg bulk bags.

Soft · Covered stock

Picking the right line

Sub-base, foundation, screed, lawn

Four jobs that cover most of what comes through the yard. The lines below are the ones we stock for them. Tell us the job on the call and we'll match the material — and the tonnage — to it.

  • Sub-base under drives, hardstandings, civils Primary MOT Type 1 (limestone) is the workhorse. Hardcore underneath where you're raising levels cheaply. Road planings for tracks, yards and farm drives that don't need a black-top finish.
  • Concrete & mortar Ballast for general concrete mixes (foundations, footings, slabs). Sharp sand for screeds and slab bedding. Building sand for bricklaying mortar and rendering.
  • Finishing & landscape Grano dust as a smooth top-finish over MOT Type 1 before slabs. Screened top soil for lawns, planting beds and raised borders.

How it arrives

Three delivery modes. Picked to the site

Most jobs use one. Some use two. Tell us the access on the call and we'll route it the cheapest way.

1–20t · Loose tipped

Loose tipped

Single-rear-axle for 1–3t domestic. 6-wheel for 10t. 8-wheel for 16–20t bulk drops onto stockpiles. Driver tips where you direct.

850kg · HIAB craned

Bulk bags

Woven poly "ton bags" craned onto drives, gardens or scaffolded sites within 6m of the kerb. The right call when a 20t lorry can't get on the deck.

30–40t · Project

Wagon & drag / artic

Walking-floor combinations for civils and infrastructure. 30–40t in a single delivery. Useful where the stockpile area takes it.

Pricing

Rough numbers, delivered locally

Aggregate prices in the West Midlands fluctuate with quarry gate fees, fuel and haulage. Order of magnitude below for material at the yard, delivered locally. Call for a quote against your postcode and tonnage.

Volume

Per-tonne price drops as load size goes up. A single-tonne bag drop costs more per tonne than a 20-tonne bulk load. Order in bigger drops if you can store it.

Distance from Walsall

Local Black Country deliveries are cheapest. Coventry, Stafford, eastern Lichfield carry a haulage uplift.

Combined with muck-away

If a grab is on your site collecting muck anyway, the aggregate backload comes in significantly cheaper. We're not paying for the return-leg mileage separately.

Coverage

Aggregate delivery across the West Midlands

Same-day Black Country if booked before 11am. Next-day across the wider region. Yard collection welcome six days a week.

FAQs

Aggregates, answered

Is your MOT Type 1 primary or recycled?

Primary. Our MOT Type 1 is quarried limestone, graded and tested to Highways Agency Type 1 sub-base specification. The spec councils, civils contractors and warranty-driven new-build groundworks need to see on the ticket. If your job actually calls for recycled and budget matters more than spec, ask us on the call and we'll quote both.

How quickly can you deliver aggregate?

Same-day inside the Black Country if booked before 11am and the line is in stock (most are). Next-day for the wider West Midlands. Project orders booked in advance get a confirmed delivery slot, usually a 2-hour window.

What's the minimum order?

One tonne loose tipped, or one 850kg bulk bag. We won't quote half-tonne deliveries because the haulage doesn't work, but a single bulk bag landed on a residential driveway is a standard product for us.

Will road planings really set like tarmac?

Yes, in warm weather, rolled in well, over a compacted sub-base. The residual bitumen in the planings reactivates in the sun and the material binds together. It's a popular surface for farm tracks, yards and lorry standings where a full tarmac job isn't justifiable. In cold weather it stays loose, so we tend to recommend it for spring through autumn jobs.

What's the difference between sharp sand and building sand?

Sharp / grit sand is coarse-grade and washed. It's used in concrete mixes, screeds, slab bedding and block paving. Building sand is soft and fine. It's used in bricklaying mortar and rendering. Different jobs, not interchangeable. If you're unsure which the spec calls for, send us the mix design and we'll match it.

Can I collect from the yard?

Yes. Trade collection welcome, bring a vehicle you're confident loading. We can load anything from a Transit tipper to a 32-tonne artic. Cash, card or account.

What if I don't know how much I need?

Tell us the area and the depth, and we'll calculate it. Get it slightly wrong and the second drop is cheap. Over-order by miles and you're stuck with surplus. We'd rather slow the booking by 5 minutes than send you the wrong tonnage..
