FAQs
A single load of grab hire typically runs between £180 and £280 inc. VAT, depending on distance from our Walsall yard, the material being lifted and tipping costs at the licensed facility. Inert muck (clean soil, hardcore, concrete) sits at the lower end. Mixed waste or material with significant clay or vegetation content costs more because tipping gate fees are higher. See our pricing breakdown for Birmingham postcodes.
Our 8-wheel grab lorries are plated to carry up to 16 tonnes of payload. In practice, that's around 8–10 cubic metres of loose soil or hardcore depending on density. A 6-wheel grab carries around 10 tonnes, useful where access won't take an 8-wheeler. Full grab lorry capacity guide.
Inert construction waste: soil, subsoil, clay, hardcore, broken concrete, bricks, blocks, rubble, road planings. We cannot remove plasterboard, timber, plastic, asbestos, contaminated soil or general household waste in a grab. Those need a skip or a hazardous-licensed operator. Full list of what we can and can't lift.
Walsall, Wednesbury, West Bromwich, Bilston: usually same-day if booked before 11am. Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sutton Coldfield: same-day or next-day. Coventry, Lichfield, Tamworth, Stafford: typically next working day.
If the grab parks on a public highway to load, most councils don't require a permit because the lorry is street-parked, not occupying space like a skip. If you're loading from a footway or blocking the road for an extended period, a notice or stop-go may be needed. Walsall, Birmingham and Wolverhampton councils all have different thresholds, so we'll advise when you book.
Yes. The grab arm reaches up to 6 metres from the side of the truck, which is the main reason customers pick grab over skip. We can typically lift over a 1.8m fence, a hedge or a low wall. Trees, conservatories and overhead cables are the usual constraint, so we'll check the access before booking.
